the Rancho Los Alamitos

On one of our days in California, we made a visit to
The land was given to a man named Manuel Nieto in 1790--
For his service on an expedition to California.
What's left is now 7.5 acres of beautifully landscaped gardens,
and a 19th century adobe home, turned museum.
The girls saw the enormous trees first-- and then they really didn't care about anything else.
There is something so majestic about a wise old tree,
that has watched generations of time pass by.
I'm sure children of every era  felt  just as welcomed on the trees raised roots.
We had to pry the girls away from the tree to explore a little more of the property.
We found the "secret garden" which is a little rose garden tucked away,
with a wishing well smack dab in the middle.
Pearl and Violet danced around and sang in the Secret Garden,
and it was so darn cute-- I forget to take pictures of the flowers!

Next up was the 'Cactus Garden'-- a whole garden of nothing but cactus.
I'm sure it had every variety that exists.  Cactus are incredible.
They are so unique and beautiful.
There was so much more to see--
but we had really only planned to check it out,
and see if it was worth coming back to when we had more time.
Now we know that it is a beautiful, enchanting place to be--
and we'll be back for more.
