Are you the Match?

Our friend Chelsea posted on her facebook wall
about a sweet little girl named Millie.
She was one of the princesses at the HopeKids party we did a video for.
She was diagnosed with leukemia a couple of years ago,
and had just recently finished her cancer maintenance treatments--
only to find out the next week that her cancer had come back.
Her cancer coming back during her maintenance treatments means that
she will now have to undergo very intense chemo for a few months--
and then she will have to have a bone marrow transplant.

Her parents were hoping that her little brother would be a match,
as he was the last member of the family to be tested--
but just found out that unfortunately he is not.

They are now reaching out to anyone who would be willing to find out
if they are the match for Millie.

They are able to find out if you are a match with a simple cheek swab.

From what I have heard, although you are anesthetized,
the aftermath of donating bone marrow can be a bit painful--
but for a child with cancer, it can mean life or death!

I have never met Millie or her family,
but the connection that I do have to them is that as a Mother,
I would do ANYTHING to keep my children healthy and safe--
but the hard fact of life is that, sometimes the situation is out of your hands.

I can't begin to fathom the overwhelming helplessness they must be feeling.

Chelsea also posted this video on her facebook,
and I think it's something that everyone needs to watch.
It is only 60 seconds long.

I joined the Be the Match Registry because, heaven forbid,
if we were in the same situation--
I would hope that someone would be willing to do the same for us.

Once you are in the registry,
if you are not a match for Millie--
you will be asked to donate to anyone that you are the match for.
I think it would be an honor to give that gift to someone.

Click here to look over the website,
and decide if it's something you would be willing to do for someone.
They will send a kit right to your home.
Just follow the instructions and mail it back.

It is a time sensitive matter,
and they are asking that those who are willing,
join the registry as soon as possible.

What if you were the match for Millie?
Or any other person for that matter?
You could save a life!

This is a great post Stacey! I sure hope they find a match for Millie I've always wanted to register as a bone marrow donor, but never have. Now I'm registered! The Millie promo code isn't working anymore, but I found another one online so that it was free to register, the promo code I used was PIF070109
