The Carving of the Pumpkins

We saved our pumpkin carving until the night before Halloween.
That seems to be our tradition,
which makes for nice fresh jack-o-lanterns
to light the way for the trick-or-treaters.
When Violet kept trying to eat her pumpkin--
we decided she was hungry,
and switched her pumpkin out for a pile of  warm noodles.
Pearl was ready, ready, ready!
She wanted us to cut into those things now!
While she chose to decorate hers with markers.
Kelly got to work, and let Pearl help get the "guts" out.
Then Kel really got down to business--
pulling out razor blades and what not.
Pearl made her own fine display of art.
She's big into writing everyone's name right now.
I gave my pumpkin miniature fangs,
and topped her off with pretty lashes.
I gave Violet's pumpkin a simple carving,
and that was that.
Kel's pumpkin was based on a character from "Adventure Time,"
a cartoon he likes to watch with Pearl.  He was spot on if you ask me.

I thought they turned out pretty darn cute--
and I love the smell of candles burning in a pumpkin.
And by the choice of Princess Pearl...
She tried to take over Violet's pumpkin,
{but we settled on sharing}
and let her precious pumpkin stay inside--
safe from the cold October air.
